The log press is one of those vaunted exercises that even non-strongmen respect. There are few things more primal than hoisting a giant log overhead, be it wood or steel. The log press is accomplished by first getting the bar into your lap. This is accomplished by doing a sort of hybrid row/deadlift. Then, keeping the bar tight to your body, stand up and use an explosive extension of the hips to “roll” the log up your body to your shoulders. After that, press it as you see fit. Pro tip from Andy Deck: Keep your elbows high and your head back when you’re in the rack position, prior to your press.
